The wood is very rough; it shredded several of my hairs with one slow careful pass. It catches on everything. A cheap plastic comb is worlds better. I don't think it would be possible to sand a lightweight wood like this down enough to not damage hair; you'd need a dense fine-grained wood for that. I would not recommend this to anyone.
If you feel you must try this, wait until it's on sale, and buy sandpaper first.

First comb arrived broke. Replacement lasted less than 3 weeks before it broke, after less than normal use. The wood is very fragile and will not last.

This comb is is deceptively simple, but don't let appearances fool you: it works like a charm. Hair doesn't get caught and pulled the way it does in plastic combs with finer teeth, so it's great to use just out of the shower. In addition, it helps tame frizziness and flyaways in dry hair. A great buy!

I was skeptical about this initially, thinking "How can a comb really make much of a difference?" but I now understand! You can barely feel the comb when combing your hair. It doesn't pull, it smoothes out knots, and runs through my hair as if my hair were silk. It is absolutely amazing. Only thing, it is smaller than I expected. It's not as long as many other combs, but it doesn't matter really because it works so great.
