The Body Shop® difference: Originating on the most beautiful islands of the Pacific Ocean, Monoi de Tahiti is a natural oil made by soaking Gardenia blossoms (Tiare flowers) in rich, purified coconut oil. Monoi is an ancient Tahitian word meaning “scented oil”. This oil is used all over the body for hydration and worked into the hair to help condition and protect. Not only is Monoi a great natural hydrator, its action is progressive and long lasting. This means it may help the skin to improve its appearance and look healthier over time. Used as part of a traditional cosmetic ritual among the beautiful Tahitian women, or “Vahines”, it was a natural choice for our luxurious and indulgent Spa Wisdom™ range.

Babassu Oil

Organic Babassu oil - nature's best - is a wonderfully light and non-greasy skin moisturizer extracted from the wild-growing babassu palm trees only found in certain areas of Brazil and South America.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus dulcis, Orbignya oleifera, Cocos nucifera, Parfum, Linalool, Tocopherol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Gardenia tahitensis, Cananga odorata, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Piper nigrum, Geraniol, Farnesol, Jasminum officinale, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene, Eugenol, Amyl Cinnamal, Citronellol, Coumarin, Hydroxycitronellal, Isoeugenol.

For Skin Softening: After taking a shower or bath apply the oil directly to dry skin. For Bathing: Add a few drops to the bath for a skin boost. For Massage: Warm on palm of your hands and apply directly to skin. As Pre-Shampoo Treatment: Warm the product in your hands and apply to the ends of damp hair or apply directly to the scalp for moisturization. The oil can be left on for just a few minutes or overnight.

Community Trade Information

Trade with Coppalj, a co-operative of small-scale producers in north eastern Brazil, has provided a dependable source of income for over a hundred producers from 12 communities in the area. Women are at the center of the babassu story. After 30 years of campaigning against large landowners, the women babassu breakers won legal rights to go onto the land and extract the babassu nuts. This enables them to earn a living while at the same time preserving the forest from being cut down for grazing cattle. The women in the communities continue to play an important part in the ongoing trade in babassu oil, which helps to improve their status and raise self-esteem.
