The Body Shop® difference: Our shea butter is provided by our Community Trade partner, the Tungteiya Shea Butter Association, in Ghana. Dame Anita Roddick visited northern Ghana in 1992 while making a television program about women entrepreneurs. She met the women producing shea butter and discovered that they used this natural moisturizer to prevent dry skin, especially when the dry and dusty “Harmattan” winds blow in from the Sahara from November to January. It seemed obvious to her that it should be in our products, and we placed our first order two years later in 1994. The rest, as they say, is history.
