Fragrance story: Talk about choices. There are 4,000 raw materials available to perfumers today to create a fragrance. About 800 are extracted from nature, such as flowers, leaves, woods, resins, seeds, buds, fruits, roots and barks. The remaining are synthetically produced, such as alcohols, aldehydes and acetates. Some of these do not exist in nature, so their uniqueness offers more possibilities to perfumers in designing fragrances. Synthetic products are used to mimic naturals. Each perfumer has his pr her favorite palette composed of about 1,000 raw materials.
