The Body Shop® difference: Our organic cane sugar comes from our Community Trade partner, Cooperativa Montillo in Paraguay, which does not use bleach or pesticides in producing the sugar. Traditionally, when sugar cane is grown, the whole crop is burned to remove unwanted leaves. Instead Cooperativa Montillo strips the leaves by hand, saving wildlife from being killed by fire. The co-op also educates locals on the importance of reforestation. In fact, to maintain their certified organic status, they must ensure 20% of their land is forest, further helping to protect local wildlife and preserve the environment!
