Being a green retailer is in our DNA at The Body Shop®. It always has and always will be. From day one, our policy has been 'Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.' We avoid excess packaging whenever possible. In fact, we're currently introducing bottles made from 100% post consumer recycled plastics. Whether seeking out renewable resources, sustainable raw ingredients, or finding better ways of protecting the rainforests, our commitment to protect our planet drives us to do more and be better corporate citizens.
Life-Saving Soap
Even something as small as a bar of soap can make a huge difference. Palm oil is used in everything from margarine to our glycerin soaps. Our soap bars now contain only palm oil from sustainable sources in Columbia. This means we're not contributing to deforestation, threatening the precious habitat of endangered species like the orangutan. The forests of Malaysia and Indonesia, where 90% of the world's palm oil is harvested, are also home to 100% of the world's orangutans. Where once 300,000 orangutans roamed, 50,000 now struggle for survival. The Body Shop® was one of the first retailers to join The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, which is pioneering international efforts to make palm production less environmentally destructive.

Heroic Hemp
Can a plant that grows like a weed have the power to change the planet? Not only is hemp a perfect ingredient in our intensively moisturizing and protecting skin care range, it's something of a hero plant too. One of the most environmentally friendly crops we've ever found, it requires little fertilizer and because it has few natural predators, it can be grown without pesticides. Plus, its deep roots actually prevent erosion and improve the condition of the soil.
