Defend Human Rights
For years we've campaigned against injustices, stood up for the vulnerable and spoken out for those without a voice of their own. Our Stop Violence In The Home campaign operates in 56 countries around the world; from Canada to Saudi Arabia, Switzerland to Korea and has even helped strengthen the law in Indonesia.
And while we'll always respect local, cultural and political differences, we also insist that our business activities adhere to basic human rights, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration for Human Rights.
We do this because we believe that beauty is as much about feeling beautiful as it is about looking beautiful.
It is estimated that 1.8 million children are trafficked for sex in virtually every country; including our own. On August 3, 2009, The Body Shop® partnered with ECPAT (End child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) and the Somaly Mam Foundation to raise funds and awareness to combat this terrible epidemic.
Domestic violence happens everywhere. At least 1 in 3 women around the world are beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime. In many cases, the abuser is a member of her own family or someone known to her.
Stop Violence in the Home is a global campaign created by The Body Shop 10 years ago to inspire customers and employees to get active against domestic violence. Our campaign aims to raise awareness of the issue and generate funds to help those affected.
Our reusable, organically-grown cotton bag is produced without the use of harmful pesticides. It's made in India by our Community Trade partner, Teddy Exports. We donate $2.00 for every bag sold to the Somaly Mam Foundation. All that, and it carries your shopping home for you too!
