The Body Shop® has always believed passionately that animals should not be used for cosmetic testing. This core value is still an integral part of our organization. We have never tested any of our ingredients or products on animals and we never will.
We launched our pioneering Community Trade sourcing program in 1987. Originally known as 'Trade Not Aid', the program was developed to revolutionize the way we source some of our key natural accessories and natural ingredients, directly from producer groups across the world. We choose to harness the skills of farmers, traditional artisans and rural co-ops who are experts in their field and share our commitment to positive social and environmental change, in exchange we offer good trading practices and a fair wage. Through our innovative sourcing programme we now trade with 27 suppliers in 21 countries, benefiting 25,000 people around the world.
The Body Shop Foundation
Through The Body Shop Foundation, the charitable arm of The Body Shop, we have been able to help fund many global projects that work for environmental and social change. Launched in 1989 (registered charity no. 802757), The Body Shop Foundation gives financial support to pioneering, frontline organizations that otherwise have little hope of conventional funding. The Foundation's focus is to assist those working to achieve progress in the areas of human and civil rights, environmental and animal protection. Learn more here.
